out and about in town last week i popped into the 2nd year interactive and moving image show at elephant and castle from the london college of communication. The brief asked the students to investigate the local community and respond in a respectful and appropriate manner to their surroundings. the concept was to interact and nurture a conversation with the neighbouring area and people. on display for four hours only the show encompassed four team projects in a soon-to-be demolished enclave of flats within the local area. the lit-up boxes project was particularly resonating and inspired within the setting of the half empty flat.

this summer colette and kesselkramer undertake a foreign exchange. if you didn't already know, kk outlet is a multifunctional office combining a communications agency with a gallery and bookshop. colette will move in to hoxton square to install limited edition products, books, music plus monsieur andre and darcel. meanwhile kesselskramer will do the same in the prime corner hotspot in paris.

jean paul gaultier // elle decoration

french elle decoration have taken possession of an apartment that is being redesigned by a series of fashion leaders. jean paul gaultier has redesigned an apartment originally designed by jacques carlu, the arcitect who designed the palais chaillot. previous designers have included christian lacroix and martin margiela.

four rooms are dominated by themes that regularly inspire gaultier.

1. nautical stripes - is covered in stretched and deformed jersey to create a 'morphing' effect.

2. invitation to utopia - is a covered in ivy and lichen woven in and out of the furniture and the walls.

3. the satin powder - features a fairground doll that evolves into a huge quilt that takes over the bed.

4. the terrace - has multiple reflections of paris and the eiffel tower across its mirrored facets.

who wouldn't fall in love with the work of will broome? a graduate of central saint martin's college under the tutelage of louise wilson on the ma fashion design course, he quickly turned to illustration. having worked for marc jacobs for many years, his work has also been used by pop magazine, vans, wallpaper, bistroteque and even wedgewood produced a dinner service with his characters.

'i work in quite a naive way. i like the simple act of drawing, of making a mark. ican draw in a much more sophisticated style; i just choose to work like this. idon’t really like anything too slick or computer generated. i also work in collage - even when I do this it looks haphazard.'
