the school of life

founded in 2008 the school of life is a social enterprise offering good ideas for everyday living. they address such questions as why work is often unfulfilling, why relationships can be so challenging, why it’s ever harder to stay calm and what one could do to try to change the world for the better. rather than preaching or delivering sermons they direct their students to channel their thoughts through philosophy or literature. with a broad faculty and with alain de botton as one of their ambassadors they offer a wide variety of courses from one off sessions to week long courses. have a look at monocles video about the centre.

fiona banner

harrier and jaguar 2010 by fiona banner

fiona banner is best known for her preoccupation with sex, nudity and war. she has her latest piece on display at tate britain, commissioned for the museum's two central neoclassical duveen galleries. experience an impressive ex-service tornado hanging precariously from the ceiling and wonder at its scale.

“at the time harrier jump jets were at the cutting edge of technology but to me they were like dinosaurs, prehistoric, from a time before words”
